There is also something called JAMF connect (or NoMAD AD if you are running LDAP and NOT and Idp or ADFS) that you may want to look into. If you want something that looks and feels like an apple product, JAMF is what you want. They have a tight relationship with apple and seem to have zero day stuff locked down. JAMF is going to be your best bet if you are only managing macs and iOS. Is it ONLY macs and iOS you are managing right now or are there Android/WinCE or anything else that you are currently using intune for? We already have an IT MacBook to package macOS apps (and other stuff). I don't mind paying a cost (vs free), because that will save my team and I time. But it sounds like other macOS MDMs can do all that, so not too fussed on this. I'm not keen on primary user being the first user to log in because we can't do initial setup, mainly things that can't be done via Intune (such as installing certain apps and creating local admin user).
